Originally from Wynnewood, PA, Vice Admiral Shelanski is a second generation American descended from Lithuanian Jews. He has dedicated two Holocaust Torahs on two Aircraft Carriers and celebrated Judaism at sea and during his travels around the world. Shelanski was Commissioned an ensign in July 1980 at Aviation Officer Candidate School, Pensacola Florida, and earned his wings of gold as a Naval Flight Officer in the E2C Hawkeye, a radar and command and control aircraft. With a list of career highlights more than long enough to fill a page, Vice Admiral Shelanski has had a long and successful career of service to our country. Numerous deployments and commands at sea lead to his command as Admiral of Carrier Strike Group 10.
